I'll never understand why a governmental board would act this way. You're right...they're not special and they are there to serve. Not to serve themselves, but to serve US!
Donna, it should be fairly simple to find a "subscribe" button if you're using the Substack app on your phone or the Substack.com website on your computer. If you already knew this just reply "Gee, thanks Captain Obvious". LOL!
We had the same reaction from a WH board member when the first neighborhood was going up and someone dared to mention schools. It was said, I think meant to be under his breath but he didn’t quite get there, “that’s not our problem it’s the county’s”. THEN he said “homeschool them”. I was sort of hearing that sound the old cartoons made when they were slapped in the head because I was in disbelief that he even said it. He’s no longer there, but even after years of service he was never disrespectful, I think that was a comment off the cuff and him showing his frustration too, as we all did that year. It’s hard not to be passionate about the things we had that we feel are being taken away. Sometimes I think board members might have a hard time remembering that. Not WH in particular, at least currently. Even previous, I appreciate that they through the years did their job to the best of their ability. Maybe they stayed just a little too long was more the issue there. Robertson, whoa! That’s a different story, although I’ve heard things about Sumner’s commission meetings that go even farther than that. You’re right, they do forget who they’re working for. Their position might give them more insight, but not necessarily more wisdom. They need to reflect and pray about it more often and not let their own ego’s and opinions get in the way of their decision making. Ahh. My perfect world! :) Thanks Nikki, great job as usual, I appreciate you!
When you’re talking, no respect as a child you grew up to be disrespectful. There is an old saying that to earn respect you must give respect! Obviously, these people don’t know that!
It’s PAST time that government officials are there at the will of the people. We are the customers who give you a job. It seems to me that these officials need to be challenged, given customer service training and FIRED if they can’t be CIVIL servants!
Mantooth was rude at the Frost Farms meeting ai attended too. I believe she's interim planning director which is good because she doesn't know very much (defers to the consultant on everything) and she's clearly unhappy in her job a.l.l. the time.
Great insight, Thanks Nikki. If I play devil's advocate here, maybe the Robinson board just isn't used to having people at the meetings. Maybe they are afraid the audience will find out they aren't perfect, and don't have a PhD in governing. That's a silly fear because none of us are expecting perfect, but speaking in public really can be scary if you're not used to it. None of this is a critique of you Nikki, the only real solution is to keep attending, keep speaking up in a civil manner, and keep letting others know what's going on. The board will eventually figure it out and become more professional, or the voters will help them move on to something they're better at.
I appreciate the insight. From talking to other commissioners, the issue is that many board members and employees have forgotten that they work for the people, not their "good ole boy" friends. No one expects them to be perfect, but a smile doesn't kill anyone. I do not expect my elected officials to know everything, but having an actual planning director that is versed in codes and rules, like Ceagus Clark in White House, would be great. We don't currently have that. Always appreciate your comments Ken. Like I mentioned in the article, it wasn't the board members, it was the paid employee.

Nikki….Thank you for all the time you spend keeping us informed. It is very much appreciated! How do I upgrade to a paid subscription?
I'm not actually sure. Let me check. LOL And thank you. Try hitting the subscribe button and see if it gives you options.

Time to vote them out. They forget who they are working for. If they are that angry, then they need to resign their position.
To be fair, it is the employee who is the worst behaved.
Poor training.

Absolute truth…. elected officials represent us the people!!!! Even where I live they seem to forget we pay their wages!!!!! Great job Nikki👏
