Cousin Eddie. We all have one. Some of us are him. Millersville, you are the cousin Eddie to White House. No disrespect, we love you, but it’s time for an intervention. You are on the brink of disaster. We get it up here on the ridge, we were there. Our previous board approved 5000 units here in White House. Traffic be damned! You want to build a subdivision??? Go for it. Well, in 2022 we replaced them ALL. I heard rumor that D.R. Horton is looking at Millersville. Ryan Homes has already started a subdivision on Bethel Road. Do you really want to look like us up here?
Why should I care about Millersville? Good question. I read the lawsuit against the city from two of their officers. I went ahead and linked it for you. Some crazy reading.
That would be good enough reason for me to ignore them down the ridge. However, I have a couple of reasons to care, and White House, you should too.
If they add houses, and not just 20 here and there, we will get their traffic. Those 300 homes on Bethel Road are going to want to shop somewhere. White House will be closer than Goodlettsville, and they will head on up the ridge to Kroger and Publix. Good for those stores, terrible for our traffic. That 300 is NOT included in the 3700 yet to be built here in White House.
Where on God’s Green Earth are these kids going to go to school? The houses on Bethel are zoned for Heritage. You know, Robertson County where we just lost our director of schools, and there isn’t a school started for the 2100 homes approved on Pinson and Calista. At least Sumner County has started another school, but that’s for the 2000 or so units in White House on the Sumner County side.
My gym had to move out of Millersville. Their building was falling apart and the owner didn’t do a thing. However, that doesn’t matter because they are going to put sidewalks in along 31W. Those sidewalks would have taken the parking from the businesses in that building. So build the sidewalks, lose the businesses.
These are my reasons to care and reasons that White House should start talking to their “cousins” down the ridge. We had a mayor “retire” for personal reasons. If by personal reasons you mean move to Florida, that’s what happened in White House. After that lawsuit, Millersville had their mayor “retire” for personal reasons as well. Maybe those reasons were being named in the lawsuit, maybe not. Now imagine that our previous mayor came back and wanted to run for an alderman seat. (Not on our watch) Well, that’s what is going on in Millersville right now. They are holding a special election for a vacated seat, and their previous mayor is running for that seat. Goodness. It’s like Millersville said “Hold my beer.” You can read about when their mayor stepped down here, and here.
Here is the ballot for Millersville. Tim Lassiter was the mayor in Millersville when the lawsuits went down. I’m not going to tell you how to vote here. What I am going to tell you is this, you only get the change you ask for. Here in White House, we asked for demanded change. We did that at the ballot box in 2022. Our previous board member that had helped run the city for 10+ years got less than 40% of the vote. We spoke loud and clear. Loud enough for those in the back to hear. (not loud enough for Nashville to hear, but the music is really loud down there) Millersville, you need to follow in our footsteps. It’s time for a grass roots citizens movement down there.
Burn that robe and hat Eddie. Take a shower, dump the Colt 45 down the drain, put on your work boots and get after it. We know you can do this. We are counting on you cousin. We’ll see you at Christmas dinner.
Love the Christmas Vacation references. My fav cmas movie. Love how you tell it like it is. More people need to read. And listen. And then go do it. Merry Christmas!
We should care, their middle schoolers and high schoolers attend our White House Sumner County schools. Liberty Creek was built to take some of the pressure off of schools over by Station Camp side of Cottontown, (I think that’s correct), also experiencing record growth. With their major boom still continuing, especially Gallatin, I suspect they won’t be looking to add another on this side, rather expand what we already have possibly? Who knows? I only see snippets of information at best. I don’t attend those meetings, just hoping we don’t have another whopping 17% tax increase like we did a few years back. Especially with todays economy, but I fear it’s coming.
I don’t think we’re done with this record growth, you only have to keep watching California and see what’s happening out there, the west in general are losing folks in record numbers and I can’t say that I blame them. All the more reason to be more proactive to infrastructure. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, I hope we’re squeaking as loud as we can to TDOT. Whatever made them build up hwy 31 on the north side of town seems all the developing was here, but the same has to happen down the ridge as well as the FULL length of 76! I’ll tout that message until it happens or I’m dead and buried. Hopefully the latter won’t come first! :)
Thanks for all you do!
