There is a lot of talk right now about a new coffee shop in White House. Next to Jersey Mike’s a Bad A@@ Coffee is going into the strip mall. This is a coffee shop franchise based out of Hawaii. They sell their coffee online and on Amazon. Full disclosure, I’m sure I purchased their coffee online for my father-in-law one year for Christmas.
As a coffee brand, it is amusing and the back story is fun. Finding them online or on Amazon makes for a great gift. That being said, it is not something I want my nine year old to read every time we drive down Hwy 76. He will read it out loud and giggle and say, '“What? I’m just reading the sign.” (I know my kid) Personally, I think that it is an inappropriate business name for a store front in the middle of a smallish town. Great store front for a college campus, inside a mall food court, or a hotel. That being said, I have no say in the business license or permitting of said business, nor do I want that.
Society as a whole has become more and more crass. There are curse words on broadcast TV that would make my grandmother click her teeth. (God rest her soul) There are sex scenes on broadcast TV that I fast forward through simply because it’s not necessary to the story nor do I want my kids walking in at that moment. I’m GenX, and even I miss the days of no swearing on regular TV. From the manner of dress to the language, society is not becoming more genteel. (bring back suits and hats for men)
What do we do about it? A lot of people are complaining on Facebook. That’s just what people do these days. Yes, me included. However, we have way more power than we realize. Your option is this……Don’t shop there. Don’t buy their coffee. Don’t drive through there. Go to Deja Moo, Scooters, Dunkin Donuts, Authentic Coffee, International Tea, or even McDonald’s. Your power is in your dollar. Spend them wisely and at the businesses you want to see grow. You as a consumer are more powerful than you think. This applies to everything. If you don’t like a company or what they stand for, don’t buy their products. I don’t buy Nike, Adidas, Ben and Jerry’s, Oreos, or Disney. I try to purchase things made in America when I can. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been to fast food places in the last year. We eat at the Tavern once a week and our gym is in Millersville. Our family is not perfect by any means, but we try to live our principles.
We live in a society where people want to cancel what they don’t agree with. Instead of cancelling, let’s ignore, walk away, don’t follow, don’t engage, and don’t purchase. Bringing back civility to this society starts with you.

I agree with your sentiment on spending your money wisely I've always tried to spend my money with people who I was in agreement with politically and religiously. I will never buy an automobile that exports my US dollars to a foreign country to make them stronger in my country weaker. Unfortunately now we're left with only a couple of choices Ford or Chevy. Chrysler is even foreign owned at this point. Without car manufacturers we would not have been able to win world war II. I try to buy American every chance I possibly get to support my country and not another.
Love your articles Nicole, and most of the time I'm in agreement, but not on this one. While I agree that society has become much more crass, I don't think this is an example of that. Maybe if it were called "Best MF'n Coffee", but the word "ass" is fairly tame in my opinion. If you're the old school KJV type, it's in the Bible.
While you have every right to choose who you do business with, usually boycotts are a result of a company's actions or policies and not their name. I'm not aware of any onerous things this company has done. In fact, they do great work for our soldiers and for abused or abandoned donkeys.
Anywho...keep up the good work. I'll send you a cup of Bad Ass Coffee thru Venmo.
