Highway 76 from I65 to Cross Plains Road is a MESS! We all know it. Anyone who lives on the west side of White House knows it. Anyone who has to get on I65 any day of the week knows it. The state knew it too.
The Improve Act of 2018 included money to address HWY 76. It was supposed to become five lanes from Charles Dr to New Hall. That was supposed to be started or completed by 2023. Last I checked my calendar, it was 2024.
So what happened? Excellent question. TDOT’s new 10 year plan came out, and we are NOT on it. In fact, the only place Robertson County is on the plan is for I65. The weigh station and I65 are there, 76 is not. Let me get this straight, the economic development plans for the “greater Nashville” area are promoting middle Tennessee, and we can’t afford to fix our highways. Make that make sense.
Here is the response our legislator gave one of our citizens here in White House about it.
Let me type that out. “a. Over 600 projects included in the Improve Act were not completed. There are no funds to get them completed.”
Where the HELL are the funds???? They raised the gas tax, and yet here we are. Can you imagine if it came to property tax day and you gave this type of excuse to the county? Well, I know I said I was going to mow my lawn and pay my property taxes. Yes, I signed paperwork that said I would. Well, I really needed a pool, so I spent the property tax money on the pool. It’s really no big deal. I have a new plan that includes the pool, some windows, and a new roof. I’ll get to the taxes when I have a chance.
“b. Needs of Tennessee communities have changed and as a result of growth, new projects have emerged that require immediate attention.” I guess White House growing from 12k-28k over the next 8 years doesn’t require “immediate” attention. Then again, if you live in Springfield you get those kinds of things done BEFORE the growth. In a nasty email from a hater, I was informed that the good Sabi Kumar helped the Springfield government get Highway 431 expanded out there in Springfield so that growth “would” move that way. In that email, I was informed that if I had lived here my whole life like himself and other Kumar devotees, I would know that. Well sir, what you told me is that if your representative lives on a state road, they can get work done BEFORE the growth. The rest of us no bodies have to wait until after the growth arrives and warrants it. Things that make you go…. .hmmm
So here we are. We are having meeting.
Mayor Corbitt has invited TDOT, Sabi Kumar, Kerry Roberts, William Lamberth, Johnny Garrett, Farrell Haile, Billy Vogle, and others. This is open to the public. Do NOT let Kumar fool you into believing this was his idea. It was NOT. The only time we hear from him over here is when there is a graduation ceremony or a campaign event. In fact, I think it’s time Robertson County split into two for a state rep. We are NOT represented at all over here on the east side. That’s just my irritation showing. I know that I’m a peasant and have no say in the matter. Just like I have no say in how they squander my money at the state level. I for one will be at this meeting. Not that it will do a damn bit of good. Most of them will go back to their offices and wring their hands for about ten minutes, and then they will go about their days. Kumar lives on a nice wide highway where he doesn’t have to worry about teaching his kid how to drive to the high school on dangerous roads. His kid has graduated, and his road is finished. Vogle is in Springfield, not sure I’ve ever seen him in White House outside a state of the county address or campaign event. This should be interesting. Join me in making them uncomfortable. Don’t let either one sweet talk us into waiting another 10 years.
Thank you! My son, DIL, and 2 small grandchildren live off of Bethlehem Rd and taking any of those roads, navigating towards White House it’s really dangerous, not just from dangerous intersections but people are so angry they forget other drivers aren’t the enemy and begin to drive more wreckless because they are going to take it out on someone. Cross Plains Road and Pleasant Grove Rd bear the brunt of it because if you can’t get out of Gum Station or Bethlehem it all filters down to those two, but they are ALL nightmares! My eyes burned and head pounded more and more as I read this! If ANY of them had ever worked in the public corporate world of retail or other businesses they would’ve been FIRED long ago not just shifted to another state job with great benefits. Margins are margins, budgets are budgets, promises/contracts were paid and completed as promised or out you go!
Loves is a joke and a constant hazard! Trucks are constantly running the turn signal and they do it arrogantly because they know there aren’t any consequences. While they are doing that, other trucks are pouring out in numbers and they use up most all of the time there is on the light for people attempting to go straight to the city. So many of us were told they couldn’t block them from coming and I just don’t know why that is, but I trust the mouths that said it, I wish we had something better planned but that’s all water under the bridge now. I think you’re right though, I don’t have a dog in the fight as I live in Sumner but we were taking a serious look at moving that way, not sure that’ll happen now. Not only because we can’t stand the politics over there, because it’s bad all over (not John and his group), but we can’t find a thing we can afford. I would probably myself appraise just under or around 4ooK and I can’t afford to move. That’s nuts! I have many words for mayor Arnold but my parents taught me better.
I’ll make sure one of from our family is represented. Hope they have lots of parking because there are lots of tempers rising and people better not be getting a generated political answer or it’ll turn ugly quickly.
Thanks Nikki as usual, great job!
Thank you so much for reporting these issues. I live off of 76 West, I moved here in 2011. The population and the traffic has EXPLODED out here. I travel 76 daily and this road is dangerous. Only becoming more so with every new home built. The increase in semi truck traffic on 76 is very concerning, both around Love's and traveling between White House & Springfield. Improvements must be made!
