Today you are able to vote early in the city of White House at the city building. Early voting starts at 10 am for those that live in Sumner County. I am not here to tell you who to vote for. It was never my intention to become political at the local level. However, when the current BOMA and previous mayor decided to approve 1000 houses in half a mile on my road, I got involved.
As you get ready to vote today, let me remind you of a couple of things.
It doesn’t matter how long you have known someone or how good of friends you are. If the candidate helped with your tennis club, Girl Scout Troop, football team, or the soccer fields those things are not what makes a good candidate. Those items are nice, but that doesn’t help when you are sitting in traffic or can’t get out of your driveway because of construction. Your friendship is separate from how you are voting. That high school buddy may be great to play cornhole with, but do they have the best interests of the community, specifically your neighborhood, in mind.
Voting records matter. Both mayoral candidates have voting records. Have you looked at them? Do you know which candidate supported public input at meetings quarterly and which did not? (you can find that in my previous Substacks) Do you know which candidate voted on both the BOMA and the planning board for most of the new developments? You can look that up. I will have that for you later in the week as well.
This isn’t personal. Yes, having 1000 homes built in half a mile on my road is extremely personal to me. I’m sure those living on Volunteer Drive about to get 455 homes behind them, it’s personal. If you live on N. Palmers Chapel or Tyree, this is personal. Voting isn’t. This is not a personal attack on any candidate. This is not a vote for the best human being, father, brother, or friend. This is a vote on vision, direction, and voting records. This is a vote for the man who can best lead our city through the tumultuous times that are ahead.
You are voting for the mayor and aldermen that will represent you. Which candidate cares about the same things you do? Which candidate will listen to what you have to say about your neighborhood, your traffic issues? Does this mean you have to have all things in common and be BFF’s? NO. This simply means which candidate is the person that spoke to your issues and will follow through with their plan for the city going forward.
There will be other articles coming out with more information and voting records. I have records from 2017 forward. That covers both mayoral candidates records for the last six years. Personally, I would not want this job. The city has approved 5300 homes with only 1300 built. Traffic is going to get worse. Schools are going to get more and more crowded. People are going to become more and more agitated. When you go vote today or in the next few weeks, ask yourself why do you think any of these people want this job. Are they going to city hall to try and put a tourniquet on this, or not? You have a responsibility to the city and its citizens. Go out there and vote. It’s time to take your anger off of HIP WH and to the voting booth.
