County elections are coming upon us quickly. If you are wondering about the calendar of voting events for Robertson County, you can find it here. That page will give you all of the important voting dates coming up this summer and this fall. If you are questioning what district you are in, the new list is here. I live in Robertson County, in District 2, so my first interviews were with the candidates running in the Republican Primary. Over the next couple of months, I am hoping to meet with more candidates in order to bring you information about who it is you are voting for. As always, my goal is to keep my opinions out of the information I bring you, and to inform you as to when I am voicing an opinion. Let me also state, that I am not a professional, I do this as a community service and I am genuinely interested in local politics.
Kirt Brinkley is a White House native. He grew up down the road from Don Eden(previous commissioner that passed away). At the White House Chamber of Commerce Luncheon he spoke about needed to change what it is the county is doing. He noted the need for better communication between the city and the county, stating that they need to work together.
As Brinkley watches all of the building around him, he noted that he had not been informed of zoning changes or invited to the city’s comprehensive plan meetings. While he is just outside of city limits, the areas across from him were annexed. Brinkley does not believe in the “spot annexing” the city frequently participates in. He feels that the city of White House and Robertson County are disconnected. In his eyes, leadership at the county level has turned a blind eye to the events and changes in the city. He would like to see the county keep pressure on the city with the growth and infrasturutre.
As former EMS chief in Millersville, he is familiar with budgets and is not interested in seeing the county go into debt. He is running to be a voice for her neighbors and to keep them informed as to what is going on at the county level. He is looking to help the county control and slow the growth while the infrastructure is built to keep up with the needs of the people. Brinkley stated that we are not retaining EMS because of pay and work conditions. He feels the county needs to do better with that.
Brinkley is not looking to move up the political ladder. He is simply a farmer that is fed up with politics as usual. He does not see himself as your typical politician. Brinkley wants to keep his community safe, keep taxes low, and be a voice for his constituents. He wants to make sure that the county is keeping pressure on the city and that communication between the county, the city, and the people is transparent and open. He plans to keep his neighbors informed though conversations and social media. While he has never done this before, he has been involved with city business as EMS.
Kirt Brinkley is the nephew of Jim Brinkley of Brinkley Real Estate. Another candidate with ties to real estate had to be questioned about this. Kirt assured me that he is not tied to Jim’s business and he himself is NOT in real estate. Other than being related, he has no business ties to Jim. Kirt Brinkley is living on his family’s farm on Union Road and wants to keep his land as farm land. He has no idea what his children will do with it when he is gone, but for now, he wants to see the farmland stay farmland. Kirt understands that growth is here and is going to happen, but he would like to aid in the management of the growth.
Kirt Brinkley lives on Union Road in Robertson County where he runs his family farm. His wife Heather Melton Brinkley (no relation to Paula Eller Melton) is a licensed professional counselor and currently work in Provider relations/Provider Performance for a Behavioral Healthcare company.
