County elections are coming upon us quickly. If you are wondering about the calendar of voting events for Robertson County, you can find it here. That page will give you all of the important voting dates coming up this summer and this fall. If you are questioning what district you are in, the new list is here. I live in Robertson County, in District 2, so my first interviews were with the candidates running in the Republican Primary. Over the next couple of months, I am hoping to meet with more candidates in order to bring you information about who it is you are voting for. As always, my goal is to keep my opinions out of the information I bring you, and to inform you as to when I am voicing an opinion. Let me also state, that I am not a professional, I do this as a community service and I am genuinely interested in local politics.
Megan Suttle is a graduate of Dayspring Academy and *attended APSU.* When she spoke at the White House Chamber Political Luncheon in March, she told the audience that the reason she put her hat in the ring, was to serve her community for her children. She is looking at responsible growth, and keeping up with the infrastructure. After hearing her speak at this event, I asked if I could meet with her for an interview. She was more than happy to meet me, and we met at Deja Moo.
Suttle first started to consider running for office in November of 2020. She was unhappy with Representative Kumar and how he was handling the mandates. While looking into running for state representative, she realized that the funding needed for a campaign like that was simply out of reach at that time. After listening to a podcast with General Flynn(former Trump National Security Advisor), she became more interested in local politics. What she discovered was that the county commission had no packet for her to look at, only minutes from the meetings, she wanted change. Suttle admitted that she has very little idea what they do, but is ready to learn. She was able to watch several meetings on YouTube. You can find those here. She did state that the meetings are not live, only recorded and posted after. (I did not verify that)
As a parent, Suttle is interested in looking at school choice at the county level. Is there a way to give parents that opt for homeschooling or private schooling to receive a tax break at the local level? That is an issue she is willing to explore.
While she is not familiar with the state of the county, she is ready to be part of the process. She does not want to see taxes increase on the people of Robertson County. She is looking to be a voice for her constituents for responsible growth in the area.
Suttle’s home and family are being affected by the explosive growth in White House and the surrounding area. This is a quote from her, “Here’s my stance on the overgrowth: Too much growth in the wrong areas at the wrong time without support services being in place helps neither the industry, home owners, the county, or the city. I can assure you I will be mindful of things like that. My representation will be of the people I represent, not one single interest.”
Suttle is looking to represent her constituents, not builders or real estate agents. She has no political experience at this point in her life, but is ready to serve for her children and her community.
One thing I noted and brought up in this interview is that Suttle is the granddaughter of Ed and Janie Andrews of Exit Realty in Hendersonville. Given that many of our local politicians seem to be builders, bankers, or real estate agents, I asked her about this. Do you see financial gain for your grandparents with you at the county level? She did not immediately answer this question. She wanted to be sure she spoke with her grandparents before she answered me. This was her respsonse, “I did verify they are not the realtors on the new subdivisions coming in.” She also assured me that their positions do not influence her decisions.
Megan Suttle and her husband live in Indian Ridge. She works part time at Dayspring Academy where her children go to school. Mr. Suttle works for YRC in Nashville.
(Article corrected. Suttle attended APSU but did not graduate)
