Here are the districts in Robertson County for the school board. This is the current list of school board members.
In the primary, you will have a choice between Jeff White and John Morris for district 3. This is for those that live in the Greenbrier and south of White House to Bethel Road. If you vote at the Greenbrier schools, these are your choices in the Republican primary. A forum was held last weekend by the Robertson County Republicans, and many of the candidates attended. There were several questions that I wanted to see answered, so I sent the questions to each candidate and will be bringing you their responses.
1. Explain your understanding of the role of the school board. School boards in Tennessee have 3 major responsibilities: setting school policies, hiring and evaluating the director (the board's only direct employee), and developing the budget to run the school system. All that our board does in these 3 areas should support our vision statement.
2. How do you believe the school board could be more transparent? All meetings and planning sessions are open to the public. Board Policy 1.400 "School Board Meetings" and Board Policy 1.402 "Notifications of Meetings" are found on our school website and should answer any questions anyone might have.
3. What is your view on public comment? There is a rather lengthy explanation entitled "Public Comment at School Board Meetings" on the website as well which we follow. It follows the Tennessee Public Meetings Act, and I would welcome any comments at our school board meetings that follow these guidelines.
4. In your opinion, what is the most pressing issue facing Robertson County Schools? I believe the most pressing issue is always effective student learning and providing high quality instruction. After all, our ultimate goal is to make sure that our graduates are prepared to attend post secondary schools, technical schools, or be prepared to successfully enter the work force.
5. What makes you the best choice for the position? Having been involved in RCS in some way for almost my entire life (student, teacher, board member) I have the experience and knowledge that I feel will benefit Robertson County students as I continue to work for both the students and the teachers in the classroom.
6. In 3-4 sentences sum up why you are running for this seat. I have made the comment many times over the last 12 years that I am not a politician and I never will be. My only motivation for wanting to continue to be on the Robertson County School Board is to help benefit in some way our students and teachers, from Pre-K to high school seniors.
