Last Thursday the Board of Mayor and Aldermen interviewed four people for the open alderman position. I and 30+ others were there. I wrote an article with the answers to the questions and a link to the video. The responses received from the public were overwhelmingly for Jana Spicer. Spicer showed an understanding of the city and the processes in the city that was not met by Payne or Mitchell. The interview was recorded and viewed by many in the community.
Here is where things get interesting, and by interesting I mean fishy. The aldermen and mayor were given score sheets to rank the applicants. Those score sheets went home with them for the weekend. Those score sheets were not turned in until end of business on Monday. That is four days to contemplate the applicants. Makes you ask the question (at least I want to ask the question) did any of the members of the board talk to one another or anyone else outside of the office? Mr. Payne walked in to the only city meeting he ever attended with the president of the Chamber of Commerce. Did she have an interest in him being appointed? The mayor called out in that meeting, “Didn’t you go to school with my boy?” Hmmmm, that’s an interesting development too don’t you think?
So, you are telling me that Hutson, Bibb, and Decker all found Payne’s answers to be so wonderful and knowledge filled that they all three put him as their first choice. I for one, find that hard to swallow. Do these older white men just hate women, or did they collude on their choice? Did they choose the applicant that the Chamber wanted? Did they just not want a woman? If you live in the city, you should call or email those men and ask those questions. While I’m certain they will tell you that sunshine laws prohibit them from talking to one another, maybe you can ask who they did talk to.
Carlos Payne is a nice guy and a great coach, but his performance at the interview did not put him in the number one position. Ask yourself, what did?
(For the record, I am not making accusations, I am asking questions. Questions that we should all be asking of our government)
What does "older white men" have to do with anything , you lost me there and im a younger white man . I feel like I just read a monolog from "The View" . I have really enjoyed your articles , until this point .
Oh my goodness!!!! I cannot believe this, well yes I can. I don’t want to come across as a die hard feminist, but at the end of the interview process I told my my family that Carlos is going to be Bibb’s, Decker’s and Hutson’s choice because of 2 reasons… 1. He is a male and 2. He is a yes man. Pathetic! I agree he is a nice gentlemen but he openly divided his lack of experience during the interview! This is a prime example the city is not using their EOC policy!
